Civil Division

 

Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office’s Civil Division is responsible for processing and serving civil papers. Examples of papers served original notices, evictions, subpoenas, orders, wage and bank garnishments, levies, writs, sheriff sales, protective and restraining orders, involuntary commitment of persons with mental illness and or substance abuse.

Directions must accompany all paperwork stating whom to serve and at what address the paper needs to be served. Also include a billing address and a phone number.

Permit to Acquire-$25 fee

Valid for 5 years unless suspended or revoked for cause.
Application for Iowa permit to acquire a pistol or revolver

A person may be convicted of a class "D" felony pursuant to Iowa Code section 724.10(3) if they make what they know to be a false statement of material fact on their application or they submit what they know to be any materially falsified or forged documentation in connection with their application.

Applicants must provide a valid Driver's License or ID card with a photo that has been issued by the State of Iowa, with your current address.
New Permits to Carry Weapons-$50 fee 
Requires a Certificate of Training or DD214.

Renewal of Permit to Carry Weapons-$25 fee
30 days before or 30 days after expiration. 
Expired permits are not valid to purchase a firearm or carry a firearm after the expiration date.

Valid for 5 years unless suspended or revoked for cause.

Duplicate Permit to Carry

A duplicate permit to carry can only be issued by the County that issued the original.  It requires a new application form.  A new NICS (background) check unless permit was issued within the last 30 days.  $25.00 fee (as per Iowa Code).  Will have the original issue date and will display “Duplicate”.
